Elementary School Gyms become unavailable for physical education classes on days when they are used for assemblies and programs, a conflict that will disappear if new cafeteria/multipurpose additions are built.
Elementary School Cafeterias need multiple shifts to handle all of the students who stay for lunch. Even when the children are split up, the basement cafeterias are crowded, noisy and unpleasant, and they interfere with the opportunity for children to develop social skills.
Middle School orchestra classes are currently conducted in a converted basement locker room. The inability to control temperature and humidity in this small room endangers musical instruments.
Middle School's "new" gym has a vinyl tile floor laid on a concrete slab, an unsuitable and sometimes slippery, dangerous surface that is nearing the end of its useful life.
High School students often go outdoors to get to gym class because the narrow corridor going through the English wing is on the second floor and is crowded. This creates added security issues. Also, a person in a wheel chair cannot go from the main building to the Field House indoors.
High School music rooms are too small to accommodate rehearsals of all band members or all orchestra players at once. Ceiling height creates unsafe levels of sound in the band room, even when player volume is drastically reduced.
